baby boy's flat front pants. {aka: jack-slacks}.

Ahhh, some boy pants love.  You'd think being the youngest of four, Jack would be swimming in hand-me-downs, but not so much with two sisters who come right before him.  And this boy can grow!  He's huge.  No exaggeration, last time we were at the pediatrician she measured his head three times, looked puzzled, and said, "wow"... so he's in need of new clothing/shoes/etc. pretty often.

{Baby will only sit still for photos if he's awarded iPhone privileges... his favorites right now are the elephant song and the duck song.  Especially the duck song...}

The fabric is from Joel Dewberry's Ginseng line, and although I believe it's discontinued, there seems to be some of it left on etsy, and other fabric shops.  I do declare, I love the weight of this fabric for pants.  And the prints in this line are amazing and so fun for little boys.

I used my own sewing pattern, one I devised through much trial & error... I used a basic pants pattern I already had for the crotch and the width of the legs, and measured him around the belly & waist to figure out how wide to make the front waist band.  I added the same type of scoop pocket that I used on the drop-waist dress I made last week.  And stuck some patch pockets on his bum for a little extra pizzazz.

Now that I've perfected the pattern and the process for these pants, I'm sure you'll be seeing many, many more.  Probably in big boy sizes, too, since Rye has recently declared that I NUH-EV-AR sew for him!!!!  {Which is untrue, but it is true I sew for him least.  Like that pillowcase we just made together.  That is now sitting in the backyard.  Or those pants I made for him to wear to school.  That he stopped wearing after one boy asked him why he was wearing his pj's to school... see where this is going?  I know he wants some mama-made love, but he seems to have a hard time enjoying it}.  :)

Due to current time constraints with school starting and all that jazz, I have no plans to release this pattern in multi-sizes for sale, but if there is enough interest in toddler sizes (I'm guessing this size 2 I've made could easily be adjusted for babies 1-3 years old)...  I'd be happy to upload what I've got so you all could download it for free.  Just leave me a note in the comments!

I've got many, many more plans on my sewing to-do list this week.  My girlie starts kinder in two weeks, and I've got plans.  Just hope I'm not running out of time!

What's on your to-do list this week?

I'd love the pattern! Do you think these would work over cloth diapers?

Varenia,. GREAT job and the ducks, while not even in the same colors, to go REALLY well and super cute. I love what you have done.
I havent finished Joshuas helicopter pants yet. I had wanted to work out a way to make the FLAT waistband you mentioned and I dont know how to do it. Im like you, I like to make up my own patterns and use what I have from you lol. I've been hesitant to finish them as i do NOT want them to look like the PJ pants you mentioned... Id love to know how to do this flat front waistband, if you are up for it i am TOTALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY interested!

These are just the cutest! My li'l guy, who's 5, still likes to wear his mama-made stuff. Thank goodness! I think I would die right now if he turned his nose up at them. My 13 year old daughter is another story! LOL! But she whines that I don't make her anything (not true, either). Can we ever make them happy?! Ha!
